RE: Noise, dust, and drafts: city window upgrades worth it?
I get what you’re saying about laminated glass, but honestly, I found upgrading the window seals and frames made a bigger difference than the glass itself. The city noise was more about tiny gaps than the panes. Maybe no...
RE: Things I wish I’d known before swapping out my old windows
I get where you’re coming from - sometimes it feels like old windows are just a money pit, especially in a drafty house. But honestly, in my experience, swapping them out was about more than just quiet or looks. I live i...
RE: That weird greenish hue on new windows - does it bug you?
That subtle green tint definitely threw me off when we got our new windows. I get why it’s there - energy efficiency is great and all - but I didn’t expect my living room to feel a bit...off? Sunlight just looks differen...
RE: Impact glass vs. shutters for storm season - what’s your pick?
Can’t say I miss wrestling with those old aluminum shutters either - felt like a CrossFit workout every hurricane season. Impact glass was a wallet hit up front, but I’ll take the peace and quiet (and the extra naps) any...
RE: Would You Share Pics If Your Window Swap Made Your House Look Totally Different?
I get where you’re coming from. When I did my window swap a couple years back, I was surprised at how much the whole vibe of the house changed - like, it was technically an upgrade, but something about the original windo...
RE: How I spotted a shady window installer (and what tipped me off)
Yeah, that “old house” excuse gets tossed around a lot. I had a guy try to tell me my drafty window was just “settling.” Turns out he’d skipped the flashing entirely - caught it because I was nosy and kept peeking over h...
RE: Windows That Can Handle Ocean Air - Any Recommendations?
That chalky mess on vinyl is the bane of my existence, too. I thought I was just bad at cleaning, but turns out it’s the salty air doing its thing. I also switched out a couple of the worst offenders for composite frames...
RE: Privacy upgrade dilemma: smart blinds or switchable glass?
I went through a similar decision last year and ended up going with smart blinds. Honestly, I was pretty tempted by the switchable glass at first - it's definitely got that cool factor - but after reading about clarity i...
RE: City noise driving me nuts - soundproof curtains or acoustic windows?
Sealing gaps definitely made a noticeable difference for me too - I was surprised how much noise sneaks in through tiny cracks around doors and windows. Curtains were okay, but like you said, not exactly life-changing. T...
RE: Easy ways to keep your windows from aging too fast
Interesting, I've always used compressed air myself - seems quicker and less fiddly. Has anyone noticed if regular cleaning actually extends the lifespan of window seals noticeably, or is it mostly preventative?
