I’m with you on the humidity thing—my old house is basically a sauna half the year. We swapped out some ancient single panes for mid-range Energy Star windows (I think ours are Jeld-Wen?) and didn’t see much of a difference until we finally caved and bought a dehumidifier. Suddenly, way less fog and drippy sills. Fancy windows might help, but if the air’s damp, you’re still fighting an uphill battle. Sometimes it’s not about what you spend, just what you plug in.

Honestly, same deal here. We put in some Andersen windows last winter thinking it’d solve the sweaty glass, but nope—still got puddles on the sills until we started running a cheap dehumidifier. Kinda makes me wonder if any window brand actually fixes it, or if it’s just hype?

I hear you. We swapped out our old single-panes for fancy triple-glazed windows a few years back—Pella, not Andersen, but same idea. The salesman promised miracles, but by January we still had condensation running down like Niagara Falls. Turns out, it was all about the humidity inside. Once we got a dehumidifier, things finally dried up. Honestly, I think most window brands help a bit, but if your house is humid, the glass is gonna sweat no matter what sticker’s on it. I’ve actually had better luck after switching to triple-pane windows with warm-edge spacers. Not a total fix, but in my drafty old house (built in the 60s), the interior glass stays noticeably warmer. That means less fog even when humidity sneaks up. Sure, moisture control is huge, but the right combo of tech and install can make a bigger difference than I expected.

Still, in my case, if we let humidity get much over 40%, especially during a cold snap, there’s some moisture along the bottom edge. Not as bad as before, but not gone either.

Thing is, I’m not convinced it’s *only* about humidity like some folks say. The window construction and install matter way more than I thought. My neighbor went all-in on a “premium” double-pane brand and still gets fog because the installers didn’t seal things right. Meanwhile, my setup (not even top-tier brand) works better just because the install was careful.

Guess my takeaway is, yeah, humidity matters, but if you’re dealing with an older house like mine (built in ‘58), you can’t ignore window tech or how it’s put in. Bit of a balancing act... and sometimes you’ve gotta pick your battles if you don’t want to live with a dehumidifier running 24/7.

Yeah, totally agree here. We had a “reputable” brand put in by the builder when we bought our place, but corners were definitely cut on install. Even with decent glass, there’s still cold spots and occasional condensation. Honestly, I’d rather have a solid install on an average window than the other way around. It’s wild how much difference that makes—especially in older homes where nothing’s quite square.
