Been looking into replacing my old drafty windows before winter hits hard again, and I'm kinda stuck between Pella Lifestyle and Pella Impervia. Lifestyle seems nice with the wood interior, warmer feel and all that, but Impervia is fiberglass and supposedly super durable for harsh winters. Anyone here have experience with either one in really cold areas? Curious which you'd pick and why...

I've installed both types for clients in pretty harsh climates, and honestly, both hold up pretty well. Impervia's fiberglass does handle extreme cold impressively, but Lifestyle isn't exactly flimsy either—plus the wood interior can add some cozy charm. Have you considered how much maintenance you're comfortable with down the line? Wood interiors look great but might need a bit more upkeep over time...

Good point about maintenance. I've had Lifestyle windows for about 5 years now in Minnesota winters, and they're holding up fine. But yeah, every couple years I find myself touching up the wood finish inside—nothing major, just something to keep in mind. Impervia sounds tempting though...fiberglass durability without the fuss does have its appeal when it's -20°F outside and you're not feeling particularly handy, lol.
I've installed quite a few of both Lifestyle and Impervia windows, and honestly, it's a bit of a toss-up depending on your priorities. Lifestyle windows do have that warm, classic look, but yeah, they ask for a little TLC every now and then—especially in harsh climates. Impervia, on the other hand, is pretty much set-and-forget thanks to fiberglass durability. I've seen them hold up impressively well in some brutal weather (think Wisconsin winters, ice storms, and all that fun stuff...).
Still, if you're someone who enjoys the look and feel of real wood, a bit of occasional maintenance might not be a deal-breaker. But if you're leaning toward zero fuss and maximum durability, Impervia might be the smarter choice. And let's be real, when it's freezing outside and you're already juggling a million other home maintenance tasks, skipping window touch-ups can feel like a small victory, lol.
Good points made here. I swapped out my old windows for Impervia about two winters ago, mostly because I was tired of feeling like I was heating the whole neighborhood, lol. Honestly, they've been pretty great at keeping the chill out—my heating bills actually dropped noticeably, which was a nice surprise. Fiberglass frames seem to handle temperature swings really well without warping or letting drafts sneak through.
That said, I do sometimes envy the warmer look of wood interiors, especially when visiting friends who went with Lifestyle. Their homes just feel cozier somehow. But then again, I'm lazy when it comes to maintenance, so fiberglass was probably the right call for me. If you're big on energy efficiency and minimal fuss, Impervia is solid. But if aesthetics matter more and you don't mind a little upkeep, Lifestyle might be worth the extra effort.
