Stuck choosing between Andersen and Pella for new windows
Discussion options
We just bought an older house, built in the 70s, and the windows are pretty much shot. Drafty, hard to open, you know the drill. Anyway, we've narrowed it down to Andersen or Pella replacements after checking out a few local places. My brother-in-law swears by Andersen - says they're solid, reliable, and he's had zero issues in like 8 years. But my neighbor across the street just got Pella installed last summer and keeps talking about how quiet and energy-efficient they are.
Honestly, I'm leaning slightly toward Andersen because of family recommendation, but then again, my neighbor's place does look pretty sharp now. Price-wise they're kinda similar from what I've seen so far. Has anyone here gone with either brand recently? Curious if you've had any regrets or surprises after installation...

I totally get why you're leaning toward Andersen - family recommendations can be reassuring. I've had both brands in different houses, and honestly, they're both solid choices. But since energy efficiency is a priority for you, I'd suggest looking closely at the specific models you're considering. Check the U-factor and SHGC ratings carefully (lower is better). Andersen's Fibrex frames are pretty impressive for insulation, but Pella's triple-pane options are super quiet and efficient too. Either way, you'll notice a huge improvement over your old windows...good luck deciding!
A similar price isn’t necessarily a like-for-like comparison: window configuration and installation scope matter, including any needed trim or frame work. If those differ, brand alone won’t explain the price.
