This thread is such a fantastic resource – definitely sticky-worthy 👍. I'm sure future readers will learn a ton from it. We’ve covered so many angles: aesthetics, functionality, local climate concerns, you name it.
My hat’s off to everyone who contributed. It’s like a masterclass on Tampa Bay window trends in here. If I were a mod, I'd pin this for all the newcomers looking to replace windows!

Hear, hear! This needs to be pinned for sure. As a long-time lurker, I finally joined the conversation because it's such a relatable topic for us in Tampa Bay. The collective knowledge here is amazing.
One last nugget from me: after you get your beautiful new windows, consider having a little "window warming" party (okay, not a real thing, but still 😁). I actually invited a few neighbors over for drinks at sunset after our new windows were installed, just to show off the view and the upgrade. It was a fun way to celebrate the home improvement!

Looking forward to seeing more success stories. Cheers to bright views and safe homes!

Absolutely agree with everyone above. This has been one of the best discussions I've seen in this forum. Big thanks to the OP for starting it and to all the knowledgeable folks chiming in. I've learned so much and I’m sure I’ll refer back to this thread when it’s time for my own project.

Same here – I’ve been taking notes. I even learned about a couple of local companies (Karoly Windows and ProTech Windoors) that I might reach out to when I get quotes, thanks to this thread. It's great to have recommendations from real people. Really appreciate this community!

I joined this forum just because of this thread. I’m planning to replace my windows next year and stumbled on this discussion. It's been a goldmine of information and ideas. Thank you all for sharing so openly. I feel much more prepared now (and a bit excited to get started, to be honest!).

OP here. I really appreciate everyone's input 😊! You've all given me a ton to think about and some awesome ideas.
To summarize what I'm taking away:

I'm definitely leaning toward impact windows to get that hurricane protection and lose the ugly shutters. Peace of mind + style = win.

Going to go big in the living room with a large picture window (or maybe a combo picture+operable) to capture the view. All your success stories with big windows sold me on that.

Elsewhere, I'll mix in some casements or awnings for ventilation (and because I love the idea of breezes without rain coming in).

Frame color: likely sticking with classic white or maybe a subtle gray. As much as I like the black look, I think white will suit our coastal vibe better (and you all made good points about heat and matching the house style).

Will definitely ensure we get good Low-E glass, and pay attention to those SHGC numbers User41 mentioned. No point in beautiful windows if we roast in the summer sun 😅.

And yes, I'm convinced a good installer is key. I'll be reaching out to those recommended pros (Karoly Windows, ProTech Windoors) and a couple others for quotes and design ideas. It's great to know others here had positive experiences with them.

This thread has been incredibly helpful. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and knowledge! I’ll update down the line on how our project goes. Hopefully, it'll help the next person looking to upgrade their windows too.

So glad to hear that, OP! It sounds like you have an excellent plan moving forward. You've got the best of design and practicality in mind, which is the goal.
Definitely keep us posted on your project. We love seeing before-and-after pics or even just hearing how the install went. It's kind of like living vicariously through your reno 😄. And I'm sure your questions and this thread will continue helping others who find it.

Good luck, and enjoy the process! Once those new windows are in, you’ll be amazed at the difference.

Can't wait to hear how your home transforms with those new windows. I'm especially excited for you to experience that first sunset through a big picture window – it's going to be gorgeous. 🌅
