RE: Thinking about fiberglass windows from Pella, are they worth it?
The claimed AC savings are hard to pin on fiberglass alone. For the actual quotes, I’d compare the whole-window U-factor and air-leakage rating, not just the frame material. A lower U-factor means less heat transfer; low...
RE: GEAR THAT SAVED MY BUTT DURING WINDOW SWAP - WHAT’S YOUR CAN’T-LIVE-WITHOUT?
I hear you on the drill upgrades, but I’m still hanging onto my old corded beast. It’s heavy, sure, but it’s never let me down - plus, I don’t have to worry about batteries dying halfway through a job. Maybe I’m just too...
RE: Why sealing windows near the ocean is trickier than you’d think
Tried the marine gaskets once after a particularly nasty nor’easter blew saltwater halfway up my living room windows. Figured if it’s good enough for boats, why not? Honestly, they worked better than I expected - no more...
RE: Would You Go With Classic Wood Windows Or Modern Vinyl After Swapping Yours Out?
I hear you on the wood vs. vinyl struggle. I swapped out my windows about ten years ago and did the same - mixed it up, thinking I’d be clever. The wood ones in my living room still look fantastic, but man, keeping them ...
RE: Local Pella showrooms vs. independent window installers - any real difference?
I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had the opposite luck. The “official” showroom crew swapped out my windows a few years back, and - maybe it was just my batch - but the install was smoother than butter. ...
RE: Anyone actually saving money with triple pane windows?
Yeah, I hear you. Swapped to triple panes a few years back - my wallet didn’t throw a party, but my toes sure did. The living room used to feel like the Arctic after sunset. Now it’s just... regular cold. Not sure if I’l...
RE: Did you go Euro for passive house windows or stick with local triple-pane?
I hear you on the Euro windows being fancy - my neighbor’s got them, and I have to admit, the tilt-turn thing is pretty slick. But honestly, I stuck with local triple-pane for my 80s split-level, mostly because I didn’t ...
RE: ANYONE DEAL WITH SIMONTON WARRANTY LATELY?
I swear, I thought I was losing my mind when I tried to find that number. Ended up with my knees in a spiderweb and my phone flashlight clamped between my teeth like some kind of window detective. Honestly, the hoops the...
RE: Struggling to keep drafts out - window sealing tape worth it?
Yeah, I hear you about the tape blending in better - my wife finally stopped side-eyeing the windows once I switched from the shrink film circus. But man, those old wood frames are stubborn. I’ve had tape peel off mid-Fe...
