RE: Do utility rebates treat interior storm panels like replacement windows?
Alongside the eligibility wording, check how the program treats installation costs. A rebate might apply to the panel alone, or to both the product and labor, and that can change the net cost comparison with replacement ...
RE: Would You Share Pics If Your Window Swap Made Your House Look Totally Different?
It’s wild how much a simple trim or window swap can change the whole vibe of a place. I replaced all the windows in my 1950s ranch last fall - mainly because the old ones were drafty and painting them every year was gett...
RE: Still looking good after years: aluminum windows holding up
Totally agree on the cleaning headache. I’ve got 80s aluminum frames and those pop-in storms are like wrestling a stubborn puzzle piece every spring. But yeah, interior panels make a real difference in winter - my living...
RE: Is the extra price for krypton windows actually worth it?
That lines up with what I’ve heard too. I did a lot of research before swapping out my windows (also Midwest, 1970s house) and ended up going with argon. The price difference for krypton just didn’t seem worth it, especi...
RE: Windows That Can Handle Ocean Air - Any Recommendations?
Yeah, that's the tough part - fiberglass sounds great until you see the price tag. Have you looked into composite options at all? I keep hearing they're a decent middle ground, but I'm skeptical about how they hold up wi...

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing with the VT (visible transmittance) drop. We swapped out our old single panes for triple-glazed units last fall. Honestly, I knew it’d cut down on drafts and help with heating, but I was...
RE: Would you put a smart lock on your window or is that just getting weird?
Yeah, I hear you on the old windows. Mine are from the late 40s and nothing lines up right - honestly, a smart lock would probably be more of a headache than a help. Those stick-on sensors are about as high-tech as I’m w...
RE: How long do wood window warranties actually last?
I get what you’re saying about vinyl being less hassle, but honestly, I’ve had the opposite headache with it. The old wood windows in my 1920s place needed a lot of upkeep, sure, but at least when something went wrong I ...
RE: ANYONE GETTING MONEY BACK FOR NEW WINDOWS?
Yeah, I hear you. I swapped out my old windows a couple years back and honestly, the energy bill didn’t drop as much as I’d hoped. The place feels less drafty, sure, but when I do the math, it’ll take ages to break even....
