RE: Trimming window openings without wrecking your walls
Yeah, I tried the “just a little foam” trick and ended up with a window that looked like it was being eaten by the blob. Had to carve it back with a bread knife. These old walls really do keep you humble... nothing’s eve...
RE: That time I learned the hard way that “dry heat” isn’t always better
Moving from the Northeast to Arizona was a rude awakening for me. I figured “dry heat” would be easier, but it turns out 110 degrees is just…hot, no matter how you slice it. I missed summer rain and green grass way more ...
RE: Tips for swapping out broken window panes at home?
I get what you mean about the heat gun, but honestly, I’ve scorched the wood a couple times and ended up with more sanding than I bargained for. Maybe it’s just my clumsy hands, but I’m sticking with the old putty knife...
RE: Simonton vs. Andersen windows - worth the extra cash?
That’s been my experience too. We went with Simonton vinyl a couple years ago, mostly because the Andersen quote made me choke on my coffee. Honestly, no regrets so far. They look good and haven’t warped or anything, but...
RE: Simonton vs. Andersen windows - worth the extra cash?

RE: Can blackout curtains really make a difference for light sleepers?
I get the whole layering thing, but honestly, I kind of went the other direction. I tried blackout curtains for a few months and just couldn’t get used to waking up in pitch black. I’d sleep through alarms or wake up gro...
RE: Replacing windows without emptying your wallet
Good tip on microfiber cloths - I scratched mine up pretty good using paper towels too, rookie mistake. Honestly though, even without the scratch-resistant coating, polycarbonate still beats replacing shattered glass aft...
RE: Finally Beat the Foggy Window Battle This Winter
Yeah, learned that lesson the hard way myself. A couple winters back, I noticed one of our bedroom windows fogging up pretty badly. Thought I'd be clever and save some cash by trying out one of those DIY defogging kits f...
RE: Thinking about upgrading to smart windows - anyone tried View vs SageGlass?
Interesting to hear the bills didn't change much - I was kinda hoping they'd make a bigger dent. Did you notice if the SageGlass helped at all with indoor plants? Mine are always getting fried by afternoon sun...
