RE: Impact glass vs. shutters for storm season - what’s your pick?
Honestly, I totally get the hesitation on impact glass - cost is no joke. From an energy standpoint, as long as your windows are sealed up tight and you’ve got solid insulation, you’re already ahead of most. Shutters mig...
RE: Quick tricks for holding a cracked window together?
Acrylic sheet is definitely a solid stopgap, but I’ve always found it a bit of a pain to get a tight seal. Here’s what’s worked for me: clean the glass really well, cut the acrylic just a hair bigger than the window open...
RE: Keeping the cold out: DIY window hacks for off-grid living
Shrink-wrap kits actually made a bigger difference than I expected, at least in my old 1940s rental with those leaky single-pane windows. Here’s how it went for me: first winter, I just used thick curtains and some rolle...
RE: Replacing old sash cords - worth the hassle or just call a pro?
Definitely hear you on the trim - mine practically crumbled if I looked at it wrong. But honestly, replacing sash cords isn’t as intimidating as it seems, especially if you’re patient and don’t rush. Here’s what worked f...

RE: Sticker shock with new vinyl windows - am I missing something?
Sticker shock is real, but if you look at the numbers, the payback’s not bad. Here’s how I tackled it: 1) Checked for local rebates - those actually knocked a chunk off. 2) Ran a quick heat loss calc online to see my old...
RE: Finally Beat the Foggy Window Battle This Winter
Installed storm windows about three years ago - definitely made a noticeable difference. Here's what I noticed: first, fogging reduced dramatically, almost overnight. Second, rooms felt warmer without cranking up the hea...
RE: Finally upgraded my windows and feeling pretty good about storm season now
Rigid foam's pretty straightforward - just measure twice, cut once with a sharp utility knife. Had a few minor gaps, but nothing a bit of caulk couldn't fix. Noticed drafts disappearing almost immediately, savings showed...
