RE: South-Facing Vs. East/West Windows for Winter Warmth - Which Works Better?
Funny, I always thought my south-facing windows would be the warmest, but honestly, our west window soaks up a ton of late afternoon sun and keeps the living room toasty. Anyone else notice certain rooms just feel warmer...
RE: Sliding vs. double-hung vinyl windows: which install is less of a headache?
Yeah, those tracks are magnets for gunk. I’ve got maples out front and every spring it seems like the sliders get jammed up with those little helicopter seeds. Still, I’d take that over fighting with warped frames and st...
RE: Things I wish I’d known before swapping out my old windows
Yeah, the noise thing is real - my living room faces a street that gets pretty lively on weekends, and after putting in trickle vents, I did notice a bit more of the outside world creeping in. Not enough to drive me nuts...
RE: Trying to pick between modern composite and classic aluminum windows
That’s exactly why I went with composite in my place. The old aluminum windows looked sharp, but man, you could feel the cold air just pouring in during January. The fading hasn’t really bothered me - honestly, I’d rathe...
RE: Replacing old sash cords - worth the hassle or just call a pro?
Getting those weights lined up is always a pain - no matter how many times I do it, something slips or gets stuck. I’ve tried taping the cord to a coat hanger to fish it through, but honestly, sometimes it just comes dow...
RE: Would You Share Pics If Your Window Swap Made Your House Look Totally Different?
I get what you mean about noticing the little things more than anyone else. I swapped out my old drafty windows for “maintenance-free” vinyl a few years ago, and I swear I’m the only one who ever comments on the differen...
RE: Anyone actually notice a difference with krypton-filled windows?
Funny, I had the same debate when we replaced our windows last winter. Ended up sticking with argon too - couldn’t justify the extra cost for krypton, especially since our house isn’t that old. Sealing up the trim made a...
RE: Storm-Proof Windows: Are They Really Worth the Price Hike?
That salt air is a nightmare, right? I had the same worries about more moving parts when I looked at the auto-lift sliders. My neighbor put some in a few years ago - he’s right on the water - and he’s already had to mess...
RE: Regretting My ReliaBilt Choice? Long-Term Durability Woes
That’s honestly been my experience, too. I keep hearing how “maintenance free” vinyl is, but in practice, it’s always seemed like you trade painting and upkeep for worrying about warping, seals failing, or the frames jus...
RE: Getting the most LEED credits out of window upgrades – worth the hassle?
I get what you’re saying about the basics making a bigger difference. When we bought our place, I got all excited about fancy windows, but honestly, just adding more attic insulation and sealing up the drafty spots made ...
