RE: Tackling new windows: where do you even start with DIY tutorials?
Yeah, those YouTube folks always seem to be working in houses built last week, don’t they? I swear, if I had a dollar for every time I tried to follow a “simple” window tutorial only to realize my opening is more paralle...
RE: Worth switching to fiberglass or hybrid window frames?
I hear you on the price - fiberglass isn’t cheap. But man, after years of running around with towels every winter morning, I’d pay double just for the peace. My old aluminum frames basically turned into a waterfall if an...
RE: Anyone actually saving money with triple pane windows?
Honestly, I think you made the right call. I went through the same debate - triple pane sounded fancy, but the price tag was a gut punch. We’ve got double panes and some extra caulk, and it’s not like my utility bill did...
RE: What surprised me (and what went wrong) installing my own windows
Yeah, those new windows are like living in Tupperware. I swapped out my old single panes for the fancy double-glazed ones, and now my bathroom mirror never fogs up - but my laundry room smells like a wet dog half the tim...
RE: Found out why most pros use suction cups for new windows
Funny you mention the sun - mine did the same thing after a summer in the shed. The rubber went from grippy to gummy, then just started cracking. I guess UV and cheap rubber don’t mix. I tried to “rejuvenate” them with a...
RE: How I spotted a shady window installer (and what tipped me off)
Man, I hear you on those “unexpected extra costs.” Had a guy come out to quote me last summer - seemed legit, but then I checked the reviews and saw a bunch of folks griping about being charged for “special hardware” aft...
RE: Swapping out old window handles - worth it for the style boost?
Totally get where you’re coming from - matte black looks sharp in photos, but in real life with kids? That finish is basically doomed. I swapped out the window handles in our place last year, went with satin nickel, and ...
RE: Is it really cheaper to swap your own windows? Real numbers wanted
Not gonna lie, I’m still on the fence about the “savings” side of DIY window swaps. Sure, you’re not writing a fat check to a contractor, but if you count the cost of tools (which I didn’t own), all the little supplies -...
RE: Swapping old windows for new: did your curb appeal actually improve?
I totally get that - when we swapped ours, I was hoping for a big wow from the street too. Honestly, unless you go black frames or something bold, most folks just see “nice windows.” Did you notice any difference in nois...
RE: Trading old windows for energy savings: a homeowner’s dilemma
Truth. I swapped out my leaky 70s windows and saw my energy bills chill out, but my bathroom still tried to grow its own ecosystem. The fan’s the real MVP there. I cheaped out on one at first - big mistake. Ended up with...
