RE: Why does mold love window sills so much?
That’s not just you - those plastic window kits definitely make it harder to open the windows. I used them last winter and yeah, they helped with drafts, but once they’re up, you basically have to leave the window shut u...
RE: Windows that won’t break the bank (or your off-grid dreams)
Same deal here. Tried sealing every crack last winter - ended up with foggy windows and peeling paint. Now I just pick the worst drafts to fix and leave the rest. Not perfect, but at least there’s no mold.
RE: Anyone tried windows made from recycled stuff? Worth it or nah?
Yeah, I had the same issue with the holes not lining up. Ended up having to drill a few new ones myself - definitely slowed things down, but nothing too crazy. The weight surprised me too. I expected them to feel kind of...
RE: Modern Window Upgrades in Old Houses: Worth the Trade-Off?
That’s exactly why I bit the bullet and got new windows. The drafts were brutal and I was tired of layering up indoors just to keep warm. I do kind of miss the wavy glass look, but comfort wins out for me. Did you go wit...
RE: Salt air and window headaches: is it just me?
Yeah, that lines up with what I’ve seen. I tried one of those sprays thinking it’d buy me some time, but my old rubber seals still cracked after a couple summers. Didn’t realize how much sun mattered. Ended up switching ...
RE: Regretting My ReliaBilt Choice? Long-Term Durability Woes
Yeah, I’m in the same boat with these doors. Mine’s only been through one winter and already seeing gaps I can’t seal up no matter what I try. Weatherstripping tape helped a bit, but honestly, I feel like the frame just ...
RE: Keeping Windows in Good Shape - What Actually Works Long-Term?
Not sure I totally agree that storms are just a Band-Aid. I mean, yeah, if your old windows are basically falling apart or the frames are rotted, storms aren’t gonna fix that. But I put up some basic aluminum storms last...
RE: City noise driving me nuts - soundproof curtains or acoustic windows?
Secondary glazing sounds good, but honestly, thick blackout curtains made a noticeable difference for me. Didn't kill all the noise, sure, but enough to finally sleep through garbage trucks at 5am... guess it depends how...
RE: Privacy upgrade dilemma: smart blinds or switchable glass?
I looked into switchable glass when we bought our place last year, and honestly, it seemed cool at first but quickly felt like overkill. From what I gathered, the tech itself doesn't change much, but if something goes wr...
RE: Window letting in cold air - any quick fixes?
Weatherstripping tape is alright, but honestly, I found it loses stickiness pretty fast, especially if your window frames aren't super clean. Tried the plastic film too - no pets here, but the adhesive left marks that we...
