RE: Worth the upgrade? My take on switching to triple pane windows
Yeah, we ran into the same thing - put in the fancy windows, suddenly realized just how drafty that one corner really was. HRV install wasn’t too bad for us since we already had some ductwork, but I can see it being a pa...
RE: How did you split up payments for new windows?
I know what you mean about wanting the warranty paperwork before handing over that last check, but honestly, I’ve never actually managed to get it in writing ahead of time. Every window company I’ve worked with (three ov...
RE: That time I learned the hard way that “dry heat” isn’t always better
Totally get where you’re coming from about the old windows - mine are original to the house (late 30s), and I swear I can feel the drafts just walking past them in winter. I used to think running a dehumidifier was the a...
RE: Anyone dealt with droopy window frames before?
I totally get where you’re coming from. I did a quick patch on a saggy window frame a couple years back, thinking it’d buy me time till I could do a proper fix. It held up for about a year, but then the next rainy season...

RE: City Noise Driving You Nuts? My Window Upgrade Story
We used low-expansion spray foam around the frames, then caulk over the top for good measure. Honestly, it made a small difference with drafts - house feels less chilly near the windows now. Noise-wise, it helped a bit, ...
RE: Keeping rain out: Tips for a watertight window install?
Yeah, I’ve had better luck with low-expansion foam too, but I get nervous about overfilling and messing with the window alignment - been there, done that. Tried mineral wool once on a basement window and it seemed to bre...
RE: Rain sneaking in around my window - caulk or weather stripping?
Good tip on the dollar bill trick - I learned that one the hard way after a few frustrating weekends of trial and error. Caulk definitely helps, but weather stripping made the biggest difference for me, especially on win...
