RE: How do you usually fix stuck or squeaky window locks?
- Agree on the masking tape - saved me from cleaning up more than a few times. - Same here. Tried it once, barely noticed a difference. Ended up with a sticky mess in summer heat. - I’ve had mixed results with WD-40 too...
RE: What surprised you when taking out old vinyl windows?
- Not sure I totally agree that modern codes always solve the problem - sometimes they just give you a new set of headaches. - Pulled apart a late-90s addition last month and found “approved” spray foam that had shrunk...
RE: TROUBLESHOOTING ISSUES WITH ANDERSEN WINDOW SERVICE: WHAT'S WORKED FOR ME
- Totally agree about the shady side vs. sun - UV just eats paint for breakfast. - Modern paints are way better, but primer still saves headaches on exposed spots. - I’ve skipped primer on north-facing trim and it’s held...
RE: Pay in full or go with financing for new windows?
- Totally get the hesitation about hidden fees - those “processing” or “origination” charges can sneak up on you if you’re not watching. I’ve had to push back on a couple of those before. - At the same time, keeping a ...

- Ran into a similar situation with my 1960s ranch - original single-pane wood windows, lots of charm but constant drafts and rot. - Tried weatherstripping and storm windows first. Helped a bit, but honestly, the wood fr...
RE: Regretting My ReliaBilt Choice? Long-Term Durability Woes
- Subfloor movement’s a real headache - no matter how careful you are, if that foundation’s shifting, you’re fighting a losing battle. - Water damage is sneaky. Even a minor leak can warp frames permanently, especially...
RE: Found out why most pros use suction cups for new windows
- Agree, suction cups are a game changer for bigger panes. Less stress on your back and way more control. - I’ve run into the dust/paint issue too. Quick trick: I keep a microfiber rag in my pocket and do a fast wipe, bu...
RE: WHAT DID YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE REPLACING YOUR OWN WINDOWS?
- Completely agree on the unpredictability, especially with older homes. - Happens every time, no matter how careful I am. - Inconsistent framing is a pain - my late 70s place has walls that bow in places, so even n...
