RE: GETTING READY FOR NEW WINDOWS: WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO DO?
I get the plastic-over-doorways thing, but honestly, I had better luck just taping off the actual window openings and using a shop vac as I went. Less plastic waste, and it kept the mess more contained. Anyone else find ...
RE: Spicing up boring curtain rods - what actually looks good?
Totally agree - brackets are one of those things people overlook until they’re cursing at a sagging rod. I’ve had decent luck with metal ones, but sometimes even those surprise you (not in a good way). Curious if anyone’...
RE: Tackling Old Windows: My Weekend Project Went Better Than Expected
Yeah, I’ve tangled with the spring bronze strips before - thought they’d be a slam dunk for my 1915 windows. The reality was, let’s just say, a lot more fiddly than I hoped. My frames were a little warped too, so getting...
RE: Window Swaps on a Shoestring: Saw This in the News
I totally get your frustration with the magnetic panels - lining up anything on old, uneven frames can be a nightmare. I’ve had similar issues with stick-on insulation kits; the plastic never quite seals right, and then ...

That’s a solid drop in your bill - makes me wonder how much of that is just because those old single-panes were basically wind tunnels. Did you notice any difference in summer cooling costs, or was it mostly winter you f...
RE: CHOOSING BETWEEN MARVIN AND OLD INTEGRITY WINDOWS – ANY REGRETS?

RE: Would you put a smart lock on your window or is that just getting weird?
Funny you bring this up - I’ve actually thought about hacking together some kind of smart latch for my basement window, mostly because it’s old and I never trust that I remembered to lock it. But then I get stuck wonderi...
RE: Swapping out old window handles - worth it for the style boost?
Definitely agree with that. Curious - did you notice any difference in how the handles actually feel day to day? I swapped mine for some heavy brass ones last winter and yeah, they looked great, but I kept wondering if i...
RE: How long do wood window warranties actually last?
Yeah, that’s pretty much my experience too. The “lifetime” thing is so slippery - most of the time it covers just the frame or sash, but hardware and glass are usually on their own weird timelines. I actually dug through...
