RE: When the city soundtrack invades your living room
Thick curtains help a bit, but I’ve never found them to be a game-changer for the low-end stuff, either. You’re right, it’s just layers of “less bad” rather than silence. I tried the weatherstripping thing last winter - ...
RE: That time I learned the hard way that “dry heat” isn’t always better
I get why people go for dehumidifiers, but honestly, I’m not convinced they’re always the answer - especially in older places. I’ve got a ’70s ranch with original hardwood and those windows that let in a breeze even when...
RE: Foggy windows driving me nuts - what’s actually normal?
Heated mirrors sound fancy, but honestly, I don’t see the point unless you’re gutting the bathroom anyway. I’ve had the same fog problem in my 1960s ranch for years, and every “solution” I’ve tried is either temporary or...
RE: Battling drafty windows - what actually works in winter?
Yeah, I’m with you - thermal curtains just don’t cut it when the windows are super drafty. I tried doubling up with blankets once and still felt like I was camping indoors. Weatherstripping made a bigger difference for m...
RE: Windows that won’t break the bank (or your off-grid dreams)
Plexiglass is fine for safety, but I’ve never been convinced it’s worth it for insulation. Tried it once on a shed - looked okay, but even with a gap, the cold still seeped in during winter. Maybe that’s just my climate ...

Honestly, I’m with you - people toss stuff way too soon. I’ve had a bathroom window fog up for years and just lived with it because replacing the whole thing seemed like overkill. Tried a similar trick with a tiny vent h...
RE: Trying to pick between angled and curved windows for living room upgrade
Curved windows look awesome in catalogs, but in real life with wonky walls? Yeah, I’d worry they’d just make everything else look even more off. Plus, have you ever tried to get custom blinds or curtains for a curved win...
RE: Swapping out window hinges: do you go solo or call in the pros?
Totally get where you’re coming from. I tried swapping out hinges on my own once - figured it’d be a weekend project, but those old frames fought me every step of the way. Ended up with a draftier window and a bruised eg...
RE: Would You Share Pics If Your Window Swap Made Your House Look Totally Different?
I’m with you on the “modern window in an old house” thing - some of those swaps just scream out of place. I tried the full replacement route once (never again), and the drafts were actually worse until I fixed the instal...
