RE: Storm-proof windows that actually hold up?
I hear you on the install time - ours took forever, too. We did Simonton StormBreaker Plus a couple years back (also not cheap, but maybe a bit less than PGT). Huge difference with noise and drafts, especially compared t...
RE: Stuck between two window installers - would you go with the cheaper or the more established one?
That’s the part that always gets me second-guessing. I’ve had the “cheaper” crew do a better job than a big-name company before, but only after grilling them about exactly what was included. One time, the lower bid actua...
RE: If My Windows Could Think for Themselves…
Haha, I hear you about the caulk - half the time I end up with it all over my jeans instead of the window. And the draft sensors? Same story here. I tried one that was supposed to be “smart,” but it just nagged me about ...
RE: Weird bends in wood shelves - normal or am I doing something wrong?
Yeah, 40 inches is just asking a lot from plywood, even the thicker stuff. I tried to get away with a long shelf in my garage once - thought I was being clever by using 3/4" birch ply and sealing it up, but after a few m...
RE: Regretting My ReliaBilt Choice? Long-Term Durability Woes
I get where you’re coming from on the ReliaBilt seals, but I haven’t had quite the same issues - at least not yet. My place faces mostly east and west, so maybe that’s spared me some sun damage? The weatherstripping on a...

I’ve noticed the same thing - our energy bills barely budged after swapping out the old windows, even though the drafts are gone and it’s definitely quieter inside. Honestly, the biggest difference was just not feeling t...
RE: Did you go Euro for passive house windows or stick with local triple-pane?
Yeah, those chunky frames are hard to ignore once you notice them. I went with local triple-pane too, mostly because the Euro options were just way out of my price range and the wait was ridiculous. I looked around for s...
RE: ANYONE GETTING MONEY BACK FOR NEW WINDOWS?
That’s the truth about the paperwork - those rebate programs are no joke. I had to call the window company back because I tossed the wrong part of the packaging and, of course, that was the one with the serial number the...
RE: Trending: Bold Window Trim Colors Are Popping Up Everywhere - Thoughts?
Totally get what you mean about the scratches and dust - those dark trims are unforgiving, but man, they look sharp. I did charcoal gray in my dining room a few months ago and had a similar panic at first. Kids and pets ...
RE: Things you wish you knew before installing new windows
That’s funny, I thought I could get away with a short level once - big mistake. The window looked fine up close, but from across the living room it was way off. I’ve also had mixed results with different flashing tapes, ...
