RE: Double pane vs. low-e film: which saved you more on bills?
Has anyone actually tracked their energy bills before and after putting in double pane inserts? I’m curious if the comfort boost matches up with real savings over time, or if it’s mostly about feeling less drafty. Wonder...
RE: Windows that won’t break the bank (or your off-grid dreams)
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing with vinyl - looks fine at first but after a couple summers it starts fading and gets brittle. I haven’t tried composite yet, though I’m tempted since our south side windows take a beati...
RE: Saw a study on window longevity - are we doing enough?
Funny, I had the same “maintenance-free” pitch with our last set of windows. It’s wild how quickly that promise fades - literally and figuratively. Ours started warping on the west side where the sun hits hardest, and I’...
RE: Big brands or local shops: which windows are actually better?
I get where you’re coming from about the installer mattering more than the window itself, but I keep wondering - doesn’t the actual window design and material play a bigger role if you care about energy bills? Like, I’ve...
RE: Struggling to pick windows that don’t make my ranch look dated
Funny, I always thought bigger windows would mean higher energy bills, but when I swapped out my old single panes for new, larger double-glazed ones, the house actually felt warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Did you...

RE: Fastest way to get old windows out without a mess?
I totally get where you’re coming from with the zip-up doors - feels like overkill for a couple windows, and I’ve wrestled with those frames in cramped hallways before. The foam board thing is interesting... I wondered i...
RE: How I dodged a window contractor nightmare (and actually got great windows)
Totally get where you’re coming from. When I had my windows done, I obsessed over every line of caulk at first, but now I barely notice. Have you noticed a difference in your energy bills since the install? That’s been t...
RE: Stormy nights and soggy sills - a coastal homeowner's dilemma
Yeah, I get the appeal of keeping wood for the look, but after fighting with moisture and peeling paint for years, I finally caved and tried aluminum covers too. Did you notice a difference in drafts? My old sills always...
