Funny how often “the trim will cover it” turns into “the trim will hide the problem.” I had to chase drafts around our old bay window for years. Tried foam tape, weatherstripping, even those shrink-wrap kits for winter. Honestly, caulk did more than anything else, but it’s not a miracle worker for noise. Has anyone tried those acoustic sealants? Curious if they’re actually better or just pricier caulk. Drafts are one thing, but street noise at 2am is a whole different headache...
Honestly, I’m not sold on acoustic sealants being anything special for street noise. I tried one brand under the baseboards and around the window frame—it helped a bit with drafts, but didn’t really quiet things down much. From what I’ve read, unless you’re dealing with major gaps, the difference is pretty minor compared to just regular caulk. Curious if anyone’s actually noticed a big improvement, though... maybe it’s more about the window construction than what you slap around the edges?
