Two window quotes, but are they pricing the same job?

What’s the best way to compare replacement-window quotes when the totals are far apart? I’d want to know whether each bid covers the same number and type of windows, but I’m less sure how much the installation details change the real cost.

For example, one quote might be for insert replacements while another includes full-frame removal. Do trim work and disposal usually appear as separate line items, and how should I compare permits, interior or exterior finishing, and labor warranties? I’m new to this and don’t want to mistake a narrower scope for a better deal.

On the trim and finishing scope, also ask each installer to spell out what happens if they find concealed rot or water damage after removing it. The quotes may match on windows and visible finish work, but differ in whether hidden repairs are included, how extra work is priced, and whether you approve it before it proceeds. That contingency can make a big difference to the final cost.
