Been looking into replacing my old drafty windows and saw there's a federal tax credit this year. I'm torn between going full Energy Star certified or just regular energy-efficient windows. Is the tax credit difference worth the extra upfront cost? Curious what others think...
Did this a couple years agoβhonestly, the tax credit didn't end up tipping the scales much. The real difference was comfort and heating bills... Energy Star windows noticeably cut down drafts, so for me, that alone justified the extra upfront spend.
Interesting takeβI totally get the comfort angle, but honestly, for me the tax credit was actually a bigger deal. When we replaced ours last year, the upfront cost difference felt pretty steep, and that credit softened the blow enough to make it doable. Sure, the drafts improved noticeably (my cat finally stopped hogging the heating vent...), but without that financial nudge, I might've stuck with regular windows. Guess it depends on your budget and priorities in the end.
