- Had a similar experience with my 1962 ranch. Thought double panes would be a game changer, but after install, some rooms still felt drafty.
- Turns out, a lot of the cold air was sneaking in around the frames and through old wall insulation, not just the glass.
- Honestly, the upfront cost was a shock. Between labor and custom sizes, it added up way faster than I’d expected.
- Tried weatherstripping and foam sealant in a few spots, which actually made a bigger difference than I thought it would.
- Heavy curtains helped too—especially in the living room where the sun just blasts in during summer.
- Maintenance is definitely easier with the new windows (no more stuck sashes or rattling during storms), but energy savings? Not as dramatic as I hoped.
- If I could do it again, I’d probably focus on sealing and insulation before going all-in on window replacements.
- Sometimes the hype overshadows the basics... those little gaps add up fast.
