IGU-only replacement or whole window when the frame looks fine?

I’m trying to get sensible quotes for replacing one cracked insulated-glass unit, but I’m not sure when a full window replacement is actually justified.

The damaged unit is approximately [width] by [height], with [double-pane/triple-pane] glass. The crack appears to be in [one pane/both panes], and there is [no moisture/moisture or fogging] between the panes. The window frame is [vinyl/wood/aluminum/fiberglass], about [age] years old, and I don’t see warping, rot, corrosion, or damage to the sash. The window still opens, closes, and locks normally. I’m also checking whether the original manufacturer warranty covers the insulated-glass unit.

For anyone comparing quotes, would you ask contractors to price both options separately?

- Replacement IGU only, including glass specifications, spacer type, gas fill if applicable, glazing labor, and disposal
- Complete window replacement, including the new sash or frame, installation, trim, and any interior or exterior repair

I’m mainly trying to avoid comparing an inexpensive glass-only quote with an incomplete whole-window quote.
