Funny you mention the rain—I actually felt like things got quieter with the new windows, especially compared to those old single panes that rattled every time a truck went by. Maybe it depends on the glass or the install? I did notice, though, that the living room feels a bit “echoey” now, almost like the sound bounces differently with the tighter seals. Did you go with double or triple glazing? I wonder if that makes a difference.

I’ve noticed the same thing—after I swapped out my old single-pane windows for double glazing, the outside noise dropped off a lot. Trucks barely register now, which is a relief. About the echo, that’s not unusual. With tighter seals and less air leakage, you lose some of the “softness” that older windows provided. Rugs and curtains help, but it’s a tradeoff. I went with double glazing mainly for cost reasons, but I’ve heard triple glazing can make things even quieter, though it’s pricier and not always worth it unless you’re in a really noisy area.
