Reading all this, I'm just thinking: at least our windows don't have to handle blizzards, just flying coconuts and the occasional lizard trying to stick to the glass 😂 Florida life!

I know everyone here loves their impact windows, but I'll be the contrarian. I have a 2010 house in New Port Richey and I'm keeping my non-impact windows for now and just using my accordion shutters when needed. I got a quote to replace and nearly fell over (maybe I need to get more quotes based on what I'm seeing here though). For now, I'm fine with the hassle of shutters to avoid a five-figure expense.
Maybe I'll change my mind after the next hurricane scare, but just saying – if your current windows are in decent shape and you have solid shutters, it's not insane to stick with that until you truly need to change them. My neighbor did all new windows and yeah they're nice... I'm just not ready to spend that money yet.

Can’t wait to hear how @rwilson45’s install goes. Please update us once it’s done!

For anyone on the fence: do it when you can. It’s one of the best upgrades I’ve done to my home. Expensive, yes, but totally worth it once it's done. The peace of mind during storm season and the overall comfort improvement is fantastic.

Also consider the resale factor. Our realtor friend told us new impact windows are a big selling point if you ever list your home. Buyers in Florida definitely appreciate it (one less project for them, and better insurance rates). We aren't moving anytime soon, but it's nice to know we increased our home value with this upgrade.

It's reassuring to see others getting similar quotes. I thought my $15k quote for 10 windows was crazy, but turns out it's pretty typical around here for quality work.

Surprised no one has mentioned Window Depot (Tampa) yet. I used them for my house in 2019 - got 10 PGT impact windows for around $16k. They were actually the lowest of my three quotes and the job went smoothly. The only downside was I had to wait about 12 weeks for manufacturing at that time. But otherwise, a thumbs up for them too as an option.

Jumping in to say I used ProTech Windoors back in 2019 for 8 windows and they were fantastic. Glad to see them getting some love here.
