Been thinking about beefing up my home security lately and I'm stuck between wired and wireless window sensors. Wired seems reliable—no batteries to swap out—but the installation looks like a pain, drilling holes and running wires everywhere. Wireless sounds way easier to set up, but I'm kinda worried about battery life and signal interference, you know? Anyone here tried either type and got some real-world advice on which is better?

I've installed both types for clients, and honestly, wireless isn't as sketchy as it sounds. Had wireless sensors at my own place for about 3 years now—battery swaps are rare, maybe once a year tops, and interference hasn't been an issue yet. Wired is solid, sure, but the hassle of drilling and hiding wires... not worth it IMO.
I went wireless too, about two years back, and it's been pretty smooth sailing. Initially, I was skeptical—figured batteries would die at the worst possible moment—but honestly, they've lasted way longer than I expected. Maybe swapped them once so far? And that was mostly precautionary before a long vacation.
One thing I'd add is flexibility. We rearranged our furniture last summer, and suddenly one window became way more accessible from outside. With wireless sensors, it took me like five minutes to move the sensor over to that window—no drilling, no patching holes, nothing. Wired sensors would've been a weekend project at least.
That said, if you're already renovating or building new, wired might make sense since you're already tearing things up anyway. But for retrofitting an existing home like mine...wireless has been a lifesaver.
