We swapped ours out last year, and honestly, fading vinyl hasn't been a huge issue for us yet. Maybe it's because our windows don't get direct sun all day, but I haven't noticed much discoloration. The UV film is a solid tip though—I've installed it for clients before, and it definitely helps slow things down.

Biggest difference for us was noise reduction. Didn't even realize how loud the street traffic was until it suddenly wasn't there anymore...crazy how quickly you get used to background noise. Also agree on the drafts—our living room used to feel like an icebox in winter, now it's actually comfortable without cranking up the heat. Heating bills went down noticeably too, so that's a nice bonus.

One thing I'd add: keep an eye on your window seals every year or two. Even newer windows can develop small gaps over time, especially if your house settles or shifts slightly. Quick caulk touch-ups can save you headaches later on.

Interesting point about the seals—I hadn't really thought about that. Have you noticed if certain window brands or materials hold up better over time? I'm a bit skeptical about vinyl longevity, even with UV film. Our neighbors replaced theirs a few years back, and they're already seeing some warping issues. Makes me wonder if it's more about quality or just luck of the draw...
