What maintenance schedule prevents early window failures?
For those with replacement windows installed in the last 1–10 years, what maintenance has your installer or manufacturer actually recommended?
I’m trying to separate normal homeowner upkeep from things that should go through warranty service. I know the basics can include cleaning tracks and drainage paths, keeping exterior weep holes clear without modifying them, checking weatherstripping and caulk, and watching for condensation between panes.
Do you inspect yours seasonally, or only when something seems off? And where do you draw the line between DIY maintenance and a service call for things like stiff hardware, blocked drainage, a minor draft, or damaged weatherstripping?
I’d also be interested in any manufacturer instructions that warned against common products like household oil, silicone spray, or abrasive cleaners. Practical early warning signs of a drainage or seal issue would be especially helpful.
