- Had the same “new windows = instant warmth” dream. Reality check: nope.
-

“South windows heat up fast in the afternoon for me too, but at night, all bets are off.”
100% this. Feels like my living room turns into a toaster around 3pm, then by midnight it’s an icebox. Guess that’s the “charm” of old houses?
- Tried shoving towels in the window cracks last winter. Not pretty, but honestly, made more difference than my fancy curtains ever did.
- Always thought east-facing would be better for morning sun, but it’s like… blink and you’ll miss it. South gets all the action, just not when you actually want it (aka after sunset).
- Still can’t figure out if my draft is coming from the windows or just the walls being ancient. Anyone else feel like their house is actively trolling them?
- Next up: bubble wrap on the windows? Heard it works but kinda worried my place will look like a greenhouse experiment gone wrong.

Bubble wrap actually isn’t the worst idea—tried it on my old rental once and it did help with drafts, but yeah, it looked like I was prepping for a science fair. Honestly, I get more cold air from the walls than the windows half the time. South-facing windows are great when the sun’s out, but once it’s gone, it’s just cold glass. I’ve found those cheap window insulation kits (the ones you shrink with a hair dryer) work better than towels or heavy curtains, at least for me. Still, nothing’s perfect in these drafty old places...
