Thinking about using Costco for window replacements—worth it?

Just got quoted by Costco for some new windows (they use AmCraft I think?). Process seems straightforward: schedule consultation, rep comes out, measures everything, then you get a quote. Anyone done this differently or have tips to make it smoother?

I had Costco quote me a while back too—pretty smooth overall, but heads up: double-check their measurements yourself. My rep was off by a couple inches on one window...caught it early, thankfully, or I'd have had an awkward breeze problem.

Good catch on the measurement issue—I had a similar experience, but with a different company. The rep measured everything twice, and still managed to mess up one window by about an inch or so. Luckily, like you, I caught it before the order went through. Seems like no matter who you use, it pays to double-check their work yourself. Costco's usually pretty reliable overall, but it's good to keep an eye on the details. Glad you avoided the awkward breeze scenario...nothing's worse than paying for new windows only to have drafts sneak in anyway.

Had a pretty good experience with Costco windows myself. The installers were professional, and the quality was solid for the price. But yeah, measuring mistakes seem common no matter who you go with—I ended up triple-checking their numbers just to be safe. Honestly, if you're willing to keep an eye on things and double-check measurements yourself, Costco's a decent choice. Plus, their customer service usually steps up if something does go sideways...which is always reassuring.

Good to hear Costco's customer service is reliable if something goes wrong. I've been considering them too, but my main hesitation is whether their installers are subcontracted or actual Costco employees. Had some issues in the past with subcontractors cutting corners, so I'm a bit wary. Might ask about that upfront when scheduling the consultation. But yeah, measuring twice (or three times) yourself seems like solid advice no matter who you pick...

Had similar concerns myself... when I got my windows done (not Costco though), I asked upfront about subcontractors vs. in-house installers. Turned out they subcontracted, but the company had strict quality checks. Maybe see if Costco has something similar in place?

Yeah, good point—quality checks can make a big difference. Wonder if Costco's warranty coverage changes depending on whether they use subcontractors or not... anyone looked into that?

That's an interesting thought—I haven't checked specifically about Costco, but from my experience with other big-box stores, warranty terms usually stay consistent regardless of subcontracting. A few years back, I had Home Depot handle some flooring installation, and even though they subcontracted the job out, the warranty was still directly through Home Depot. Had a minor issue later on, and they took care of it without any fuss.

But now you've got me curious... does Costco handle it similarly? Or do they shift responsibility onto the subcontractor if something goes wrong? Could make a difference in how smoothly warranty claims get handled down the road. Might be worth double-checking their fine print or asking directly before committing.

Had a similar experience when we replaced our windows a couple years ago, though not through Costco. Went with Lowe's, and they subcontracted the install—but Lowe's still handled all warranty stuff directly. Honestly, it was pretty painless when a seal failed about a year later. I'd be surprised if Costco didn't do something similar... but who knows, every store has its quirks. Anyone here actually had to file a warranty claim on Costco-installed windows? Curious how smoothly that went.

We went through Costco for windows about 5 years back. Install was subcontracted too, but Costco handled warranty directly. Had a latch issue after maybe 18 months... called them up, and honestly, it was pretty straightforward. Took a couple weeks to get sorted, but no real headaches.
