Honestly, I was bracing for a 12-week wait, but mine showed up in just under 8. Not sure if I just lucked out or if things are speeding up lately. Installers were even a bit shocked. Has anyone else had a shorter wait recently, or was it just a fluke? I’m curious if this is becoming the norm or if I just caught the right window (pun intended).

I wish I could say my luck was as good—ordered mine last fall and it dragged out to almost 13 weeks. Maybe I picked the wrong time, or maybe the universe just likes messing with me. My installer said sometimes it depends on whether you’re getting standard sizes or custom stuff (I needed a couple oddball shapes for my 60s ranch).

Could be you hit a sweet spot where supply finally caught up, or maybe your order was more straightforward. I wouldn’t bet on the shorter wait being the new norm just yet, though. A neighbor down the street is still waiting on her batch and it's been nearly 10 weeks already. Seems like it's still a bit of a roulette wheel depending on what you need and when you order.

Funny how these things go—you either get lucky or end up staring at plywood for months...

That’s pretty much been my experience too—luck of the draw. I did a round of replacements a couple years ago (also for a midcentury place) and the wait was all over the map. My living room windows, which were standard size, showed up in like six weeks, but then I had to wait another two months for a single custom triangle window for the stairwell. Installer blamed “supply chain issues,” but honestly, it felt like nobody really knew what was going on.

I get what you mean about staring at plywood for months. There’s only so much painter’s tape and optimism can do when you’re trying to keep drafts out. At least when they finally show up, it feels like Christmas morning… even if it’s just a bunch of glass and frames.

Hang in there—it’s frustrating, but eventually things work out. And hey, maybe next time you’ll be the one hitting the sweet spot.

Honestly, staring at plywood for weeks is a rite of passage at this point. I remember thinking, “How drafty can it really get?”… then the first cold snap hit and I was taping up every gap like I was prepping for a hurricane. The supply chain excuse feels like a catch-all lately—mine blamed it on “glass shortages” and then the next week said it was “hardware delays.” Who knows.

It’s wild how the standard stuff shows up in a blink but anything custom is like ordering a unicorn. My neighbor waited almost six months for an arched window, and by the time it arrived, she’d forgotten what color she picked. But yeah, when they finally go in, it’s like your house gets its face back. That first morning with real sunlight again? Worth the hassle (almost).

Here’s hoping next round goes smoother for you—or at least involves less painter’s tape and fewer cold toes.
