Yeah, the cost of window coverings totally blindsided me too (pun intended). I remember walking into a big box store thinking, “How expensive could a few shades possibly be?” Fast forward to me standing in the aisle, calculator in hand, trying to justify spending more on blackout curtains than my monthly grocery bill. I ended up mixing and matching—some rooms got the cheap vinyl blinds, others just have IKEA curtains on those tension rods you mentioned. Not the most Pinterest-worthy, but it keeps the sun out and my wallet mostly intact. Pets definitely add a whole extra layer of chaos. My dog thinks anything that moves near a window is his sworn enemy, so fancy was never really an option for us anyway.
