Last night, I was sitting on my couch wrapped in a blanket, freezing my toes off, and staring at my curtains. They're pretty thick, heavy fabric ones—my mom insisted they'd keep the heat in better. But as I sat there shivering, I started wondering...is this actually true or just one of those things people say? Like, does closing curtains at night genuinely help trap heat inside, or is it more psychological—you know, like when you feel warmer just because you're wearing fuzzy socks?
Anyway, it got me thinking about a scenario: imagine you're stuck in a cabin during a snowstorm, power's out, and all you've got are some heavy curtains and blankets. Could curtains really make the difference between freezing your butt off and staying cozy enough to survive the night? Or would you be better off using them as extra blankets instead?
Curious if anyone else has thought about this or has some science-y insight.
Heavy curtains do help a bit, but honestly, their main job is blocking drafts and slowing heat loss through windows. If you're seriously freezing though, you'd probably be better off wrapping yourself in them directly instead of just closing them...
