is triple pane glass really worth it for blocking street noise?

I'm looking into replacing my windows and the street noise here is driving me nuts, especially at night. Anyone tried triple pane windows and noticed a big difference compared to double pane? They're pricier, so wanna make sure it's actually worth it before I splurge.

Triple pane windows do help a bit, but honestly, glass thickness and spacing between panes matter more for noise reduction than just adding another pane. I've seen folks spend big on triple pane expecting silence, only to be disappointed. If noise is your main issue, you might wanna look into laminated glass instead—it's specifically designed to dampen sound vibrations. Usually cheaper than triple pane too, and I've had clients swear by the difference it made. Just something to consider before dropping serious cash...

Yeah, learned this the hard way myself. Dropped a chunk of change on triple panes thinking I'd finally sleep through garbage day... nope. Switched to laminated glass in the bedroom later—huge difference, and my wallet didn't cry as much either.

Yeah, triple pane glass gets hyped up a lot, but honestly, it's more about insulation than noise control. Learned this myself renovating our last place—thought thicker meant quieter... nope. Laminated glass has that inner layer specifically designed to dampen sound vibrations, so it makes sense you noticed a big difference. Glad you found something that worked without emptying your wallet too much—renovations are pricey enough as it is.

Gotta slightly disagree here. Triple pane glass can actually help with noise, but only if the panes have different thicknesses and spacing. When we redid our bedroom windows, the contractor explained that varying thicknesses disrupt sound waves better than uniform panes. Laminated glass is definitely great for noise, but properly configured triple pane isn't just hype—it's just often misunderstood or poorly implemented. Learned that one the hard way myself...

Triple pane windows can indeed reduce noise, but the difference isn't always dramatic compared to good double pane setups. Proper sealing and installation matter just as much. I'd prioritize laminated glass or acoustic-specific designs if noise is your main concern.
