Man, the glove thing is wild—my lefts disappear too. I swear I had a full pair at the start, now it’s just a pile of righties. As for those bent nails, I ran into a few that looked like modern art. Whoever installed my old windows must’ve had a strong arm and zero aim. I totally underestimated how much caulk and filler I’d end up using, and yeah, the shrinkage bugs me but not enough to redo it. Still, I’ll take lower bills over perfect trim any day.
The missing left glove thing is unreal—thought it was just me. I’ve got a drawer full of righties now, too. On the window front, yeah, the amount of caulk and filler you blow through is nuts. I figured one tube per window would be plenty... ended up making three trips to the hardware store before I was done. Didn’t realize how much those gaps add up, especially in an older house where nothing’s square.
Shrinkage drives me a little crazy, but honestly, after a few months you stop noticing unless you’re staring right at it. Lower heating bills are worth a few imperfect lines in my book. For anyone still in the middle of this, painter’s caulk is your friend—cheaper and easier to work with than some of the fancy stuff.
And yeah, whoever did the original install on my place must’ve had a vendetta against straight nails. Pulled out a few that looked like they’d been through a blender. Makes you appreciate even halfway decent craftsmanship these days...
