You nailed it—the size and location really make all the difference. I did a third-story casement last summer, and there’s just no way I’d try that without someone spotting me, even if it means a bit of “creative” help with the shims. I totally get the caulking pain too...I’ve tried those fancy smoothers and half the time I end up using my finger anyway. Still, nothing beats that feeling when everything’s finally sealed up tight.
