- Totally get the weird window size struggle. Mine are from the ‘50s and nothing “standard” fits.

Still haven’t found anything that beats a full window swap for peace of mind, though… just can’t justify the cost yet.
Yep, same boat. I keep eyeing YouTube tutorials, but every step looks like a “measure twice, panic once” situation.
- Tried the foam tape hack last winter—held up until my cat decided it was a chew toy.
- Rope caulk actually sounds tempting if it peels off clean. Might give that a shot next cold snap.

That’s honestly the most accurate way to describe it. Even after years doing this, oddball window sizes from the ‘50s still make me double-check everything. Custom windows can get pricey, but sometimes just swapping out the sashes (if your frames aren’t rotted) is a decent middle ground. Rope caulk’s not bad for drafts, but it can leave a little residue if you don’t pull it off before spring hits—nothing major, just a heads up. Ever try shrink film kits? Not perfect, but they’ve saved me from a few icy drafts in a pinch.
