Totally get where you're coming from. We had this exact dilemma last year—thought I was being clever just swapping out the foggy glass panes, but turns out the frames were basically holding on by a prayer. The seals were crumbling and I swear you could feel a breeze even with the windows closed. Tried to ignore it (and just wear thicker socks), but after our first winter, my partner finally convinced me to bite the bullet and do full replacements.

Not gonna lie, the price tag stung at first... but suddenly our heating bill wasn’t through the roof and we weren’t waking up freezing. I know some folks say you can get away with just fixing the glass or resealing, but if your frames are old or warped, it’s kind of like putting a bandaid on a leaky pipe. Sometimes you gotta just rip off that bandaid and invest in new windows. Definitely not fun for the wallet, but my toes are thanking me now.

I hear you, but I still think a lot of folks underestimate how much energy (and money) literally leaks out through bad frames and seals. I get the sticker shock—new windows aren’t cheap—but honestly, the efficiency gains are huge. I tried patching mine for years, but after finally replacing them, the difference in insulation was night and day. Sometimes you just have to think long-term, even if it hurts up front.
