Wow, this thread turned out amazing. I’m so grateful for all the input and shared experiences. I have a notebook full of ideas now (seriously!). You all have helped me avoid potential pitfalls and given me the confidence to add some creative touches I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.
I’m going to finalize my window design and get those quotes rolling from Karoly and ProTech (and maybe one or two others for comparison). I’ll definitely update everyone once the project is done to let you know how it went and to share some before-and-after pics if possible.

Thank you again to each and every one of you – I feel like I just had a team of expert neighbors help me out. 😊 I hope this thread stays up for others to learn from too. Wish me luck on the install, and I’ll keep you posted!

@poet45 – Wishing you the best of luck! Can’t wait to hear how it goes. I’m glad my two cents could contribute in some way. Honestly, I’ve been following along and taking notes myself for future reference. Who knew windows could be such an interesting topic, right?
This discussion even gave me a few ideas for our back porch enclosure project (thinking of adding a high transom window for extra light thanks to what I read here). So thank YOU for starting this thread.

Do keep us updated and don’t hesitate to ask if any questions pop up during your project. We’re all here to help! And definitely share pics when it’s done – we love a good before-and-after story on this forum. Good luck!

Same here, I’ve been following quietly after my initial post and have learned a ton. It’s been such a fun and informative thread – huge thanks to everyone for contributing. I’ve got some inspiration for my next home improvement (thinking about adding a small window in our pantry now to brighten it up – never would’ve considered it before!).
@poet45, I’m excited for you to get this project going. You’ve got a solid plan and a whole crew of us virtually cheering you on. 😄 When all is said and done, I suspect you’ll be that person giving advice to others, armed with your firsthand experience and everything you picked up here.

Best of luck! Keep us posted on how the install goes and how the new windows change your home. I have a feeling it’s going to be a stunning transformation.

Chiming in late, but I just read through this entire thread and I’m blown away by how comprehensive it is. It’s like a masterclass on window design tailored for our Tampa Bay climate and styles. Big shoutout to everyone – you’ve basically answered questions I didn’t even know I had.
I’ve been procrastinating on upgrading my old windows, but after reading all this, I’m feeling motivated and much more informed. I even have a couple of companies in mind to call (those names dropped didn’t go unnoticed 😉). It’s rare to find such a goldmine of practical tips and genuine experiences.

So, thank you all! And @poet45, best of luck with your project – I suspect your home is going to look and feel fantastic with the new windows. This thread has been bookmarked for future reference, and I’m sure it’ll help many more folks down the line. Good job, everyone!
