RE: WHAT MADE YOUR WINDOW QUOTE JUMP? MATERIALS VS. INSTALLATION
WHAT MADE YOUR WINDOW QUOTE JUMP? MATERIALS VS. INSTALLATION I get where you're coming from about the “site protection” fees - sometimes it really does feel like they’re padding the bill for stuff that’s just standard p...
RE: Window replacements that actually look old (but work like new?)
This is exactly the struggle I ran into with my 1920s bungalow. I wanted something that looked original but didn’t rattle every time the wind blew. I checked out some of those wood-clad replacements with the divided lite...
RE: Torn between Simonton's contemporary vs traditional picture window styles
Those old frames really can be a headache - especially if you’re dealing with anything pre-’50s. I’ve had it where nothing is square, and you end up shimming so much you feel like you’re building the window from scratch....
RE: Thinking about privacy glass for home windows - worth the hype?
Yeah, good point. Did you find removing the old film a hassle, or did it peel off pretty cleanly? I've been considering privacy film myself, but I keep wondering if the removal process leaves residue or damages the glass...
RE: Rain sneaking in around my window - caulk or weather stripping?

Yeah, that's a good point. Hand-checking can catch obvious drafts, but subtle leaks are tricky. I remember replacing windows in my old place - thought I'd done a thorough check by hand, but when winter hit, the heating b...
RE: Windows that tint themselves - would you use them at your place?
Haha, totally get that. Remember when smart thermostats first came out? I jumped on that bandwagon early, and let's just say my house had some "interesting" temperature swings for a while. 😅 But seriously, these...
RE: Thinking about vinyl windows that look like real wood - worth it or nah?
We've had vinyl windows with the wood-look finish for about five years now, and honestly, they've held up pretty well. But I'm curious - did anyone else notice a difference depending on the brand? We went with a mid-rang...
RE: WINDOW PLACEMENT HACKS TO GET A NICE BREEZE FLOWING
Haha, cats always find the exact spot you don't want them in. Speaking of airflow though, anyone tried using sheer curtains or blinds angled a certain way to boost the breeze? Wondering if that actually helps or just loo...
