I’ve been weighing this exact decision for months now, so it’s super helpful hearing about Marvin windows holding up better over time. I totally get what you mean about the upkeep—my old windows look great after a fresh scrape and paint, but that only lasts until winter. Then it’s sticking sashes and paint chipping all over again. I keep telling myself it’s “charming,” but honestly, it’s more like a chore.

One thing I’m curious about: Did you do the install yourself or go with a contractor for the new wood windows? I’m handy-ish, but the idea of messing up the fit (especially in these weirdly-sized openings) kind of freaks me out. Also, how did you handle matching the trim and style to keep things looking original? My house is 1915 and I’d hate for one room to stand out in a bad way.

Would love to hear if anyone found a good balance between low maintenance and keeping that old house vibe intact.
