What should an acoustic-window quote spell out?

When two replacement-window bids promise noise reduction but specify different glass makeups, what’s the fairest way to compare them? I’d want to know whether the quoted acoustic ratings are for the same test conditions and comparable complete window assemblies, rather than treating a glass-only rating as a direct comparison.

What should an itemized quote separate for the glass, frame, and installation scope? I’m also curious whether sealing work and installation details are priced clearly enough to compare, since a higher glass specification may not address noise coming through gaps or other parts of the building. Which differences in a bid would you consider meaningful, rather than just a more expensive feature?

Even matching window ratings won’t tell you how much quieter the room will be. Sound can still come through walls, vents, or other paths, so a higher-rated window may make little difference if one of those is dominant. I’d ask the bidders what they expect the change to be in the room itself, and what assumptions that estimate depends on.
