Some even went for window inserts that apparently make a huge difference, but they’re kinda pricey. I’m wondering if any of you have tried these tricks or found something that actually works without breaking the bank? My old house has those thin single-pane windows and it’s like living next to a freeway some nights. Curious if any of these solutions are worth it, or if it’s all hype?

I’m in an older building (think creaky floors, thin walls, the works) and the traffic is getting to me—especially at night. I’ve seen a bunch of “soundproof” window ads, but I’m a little skeptical since some of them cost as much as my rent, no joke. Is it worth going for the double or triple glazing thing, or is it just marketing fluff? Also, is there a brand or style that actually makes a noticeable difference, or am I better off just getting some heavy curtains and calling it a day? Would love to hear if anyone’s tried this and if you regret it or not.

I’m honestly at my wit’s end with this. I live on a pretty busy street, and even though my apartment building isn’t ancient (built in the 90s, so not exactly historic), I swear it feels like the windows are just thin sheets of plastic. Every morning, garbage trucks, leaf blowers, you name it—sounds like they’re right in my living room. I tried those foam weather strips around the edges (the ones you get at Home Depot for like $10), and maybe it helped a tiny bit, but mostly just made opening and closing the window a pain.

A friend suggested heavy curtains, so I got these “blackout” ones that are supposedly also soundproof. They look nice, but honestly? Not much difference. I’m starting to think unless I fork out thousands for new windows, there’s no real solution. I even looked up those acrylic “window inserts” but the prices made me laugh-cry.

Anyone else dealing with this? Has anyone actually found something that works for existing windows without major construction or spending a fortune? Or am I doomed to hear every car alarm in the neighborhood forever? Would love to know if there’s some trick I’m missing here…

That’s like turning down the city’s volume from “perpetual jackhammer” to “background hum.” I wish I’d known this before my last replacement, since I went with double-pane but still hear sirens all night. Has anyone tried these soundproof types? Or found other tricks for keeping city noise out?

Seriously, I can’t be the only one who feels like they’re living next to a freeway, even when the window’s shut tight. I’ve got a 1950s house, original single-pane windows (yeah, I know), and the street noise is just… relentless. Like, I can literally hear people’s conversations as they walk by, and don’t get me started on garbage trucks at 6am.

I’ve been looking into getting those windows that are supposed to block out sound, but man, the quotes I’m getting are wild. One company tried to sell me on triple-pane glass for almost as much as my car cost. Is it even worth it? Does it really make a difference? I’m kinda skeptical—I mean, how much quieter can it actually get?

Would love to hear if anyone’s gone through with this and if you actually noticed a big change. Or maybe there’s some trick I’m missing (like… magic curtains or something?). My sleep schedule is begging for mercy at this point. Anyone else dealing with this kind of thing?

Then one day, you finally cave and get those fancy noise-reducing windows installed. Suddenly, you wake up and... it's just quiet. Like, eerily so—you start wondering if you slept through an apocalypse or something.

What happens next? Maybe you notice weird new sounds inside your house, or maybe your cat gets confused by the lack of street noise. Anyone wanna add to this story or share their own version?
