Five years isn't much at all, especially for remote cabins facing harsh weather. Sounds like you might've had standard double-pane glass—good for insulation, but not always storm-proof. I'd suggest looking into impact-resistant laminated glass or even polycarbonate glazing. They're pricier upfront but handle flying debris and heavy winds way better. Curious though, did you notice if the cracks started from the frame edges or smack in the middle? Could point to installation issues rather than just material strength...
