Honestly, I’d push back a bit on the insulation making the biggest difference. For us, impact glass did more for comfort than attic work. Here’s how it broke down:
-
“We had our attic re-insulated before touching the windows, and honestly, that seemed to help more with both summer heat and winter drafts.”
- We replaced old single-pane windows with impact glass last year. Immediate difference in noise and drafts—house felt less humid, too.
- Our attic insulation is decent (not new), but honestly, after the window upgrade our AC ran less on hot days.
- Energy bills didn’t drop dramatically, but comfort-wise, it was night and day. Storms feel way less stressful now.
Condensation hasn’t been a big problem here (South FL), but we do keep ceiling fans running most of the time. If I had to pick one on a budget, I’d still go for impact glass first—especially if you’re in a hurricane zone. The peace of mind alone is worth it. Insulation can always get topped up later.
