Can opening windows really help cut down indoor humidity?

My apartment gets super humid, especially after cooking or showers, and it's driving me nuts. I've heard some people say opening windows helps, but others say it just lets in more moisture from outside. I'm kinda confused...does it depend on the weather or something? I don't have a dehumidifier yet, so I'm trying to find a quick fix for now. Anyone tried this and had any luck?

Opening windows can help, but it really depends on the humidity outside. If it's muggy out, you're just swapping damp air for more damp air. Maybe try running your exhaust fan longer after showers or cooking...that usually helps me a bit.
