Been noticing lately my windows are looking pretty rough—guess the salty air around here is finally taking its toll. I'm thinking about getting them replaced soon, but honestly, I'm kinda lost on what type of windows hold up best near the coast. Vinyl, fiberglass, wood clad...um, aluminum? Curious what you guys have gone with and if you're happy with how they're holding up against corrosion and all that salty goodness. Any advice or horror stories welcome!
I've seen a lot of coastal homes go with fiberglass lately, and honestly, they've held up pretty well. Installed some for a client about five years ago right near the beach, and when I drove by recently, they still looked solid—no noticeable corrosion or fading. Vinyl can be decent too, but I've noticed it sometimes warps a bit in intense sun. Curious though, anyone here tried aluminum with a protective coating? Heard mixed things about that...
Fiberglass definitely seems like a solid choice from what I've seen too. About aluminum with protective coatings—I had a neighbor who went that route about three years ago. Initially, they looked great, but lately I've noticed some minor pitting and discoloration starting to show up. Not terrible, but noticeable if you're picky. Might depend on the quality of the coating or how harsh your local conditions are...
