Biggest surprise was how much less drafty the room feels now.
Interesting—did you notice any condensation issues after swapping to double-pane? I’ve seen some older homes where the air got a little too “trapped” and moisture started building up on the inside glass. Also, curious if you considered triple-pane at all, or was that just overkill for your area? Sometimes the extra pane barely makes a difference in sound, but it can jack up the price fast.
I actually ran into the opposite with condensation—after swapping to double-pane, it all but disappeared for me. My house is from the late 60s, and before replacing the old single-pane monsters, I’d get puddles on the sills every winter morning. Since the upgrade, it’s been way better, but I do run a small dehumidifier in that room just in case. I think a lot depends on how tight your house is and if you’ve got decent airflow.
About triple-pane... Honestly, I looked into it, but the price jump was pretty wild. Living in a milder climate (PNW), it felt like overkill for what I’d gain. Maybe if I was up north or next to a highway, I’d reconsider for the extra soundproofing. For now, double-pane’s been a solid middle ground—less drafty, less noise, and my heating bill dropped noticeably. Not perfect, but definitely an improvement.
