Hey folks, I'm thinking about replacing some windows in our cabin up in the mountains. Winters get pretty harsh here, lots of snow and wind, you know how it is. I've heard mixed things about double-pane vs triple-pane, vinyl vs wood frames, and all that jazz. Um, figured I'd toss up a quick poll to see what most of you mountain-dwellers prefer:
Poll: What type of windows do you prefer for cold mountain climates?
- Double-pane vinyl
- Triple-pane vinyl
- Double-pane wood
- Triple-pane wood
- Something else entirely (tell me below!)
Feel free to drop your two cents below if you've got some experience to share.
Triple-pane vinyl all the way. Wood looks great, but honestly, maintenance can be a painβespecially when you're dealing with harsh winters. Vinyl frames hold up better against moisture and temperature swings, plus triple-pane gives you that extra insulation to keep heating costs down.

Exactly why I'd skip double-pane. Triple-pane costs a bit more upfront, but trust me, your wallet (and toes) will thank you later...
