Last night, my bedroom window latch randomly popped open at like 3 am. Freaked me out big time, thought someone was breaking in or something. Turns out the latch just won't stay shut anymore. Anyone else had their window hardware randomly betray them like this?

Had something similar happen a while back - my kitchen window latch decided to randomly give up at midnight. Thought I was in a horror movie for a sec... Anyway, if your latch isn't staying shut, it's usually due to wear or misalignment. Try tightening the screws first; if that doesn't help, replacing the latch is pretty straightforward. Just remove the old one, match it at the hardware store, and screw the new one in place. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes tops.
